For God , Country and Coca-Cola

Summary
The first section of the book talks about how coca-cola was started. The soft drink was invented by John Pemberton in the late 1800's.It discusses how the product was originally suppose to be a medicine . In 1888 the company distributed coupons for the drink in order to promote it. It was going to be called coca wine. This section of the book covers the early stages of the product and the company.

" If i could get 25,000$, i would spend 24,000 on advertising and the remainder in making coca-cola. Then we'd all be rich." (Pendergrast 34-35)

Reaction
This quote demonstrates how the company was focused on getting the product well known. They wanted people to become familiar with it so that they can sell more of it. It's part of how it became a house hold name
